As generation centralized in a few local power plants,electrical distances betweengeneration and load are far away. Power system is always operating under heavy loadsconditions. Because of lacking of reactive power,thus voltage stability is more seriousthan before,voltage collapse incidents throughout the world happened frequently. VARplanning is of great importance to quality guarantee,power loss minimization,enhancing static voltage stability and thus secure economic operation of power systems.The key to solve voltage stability problems is to have enough in-controlled reactivepower sources, so the reasonable reactive power planning (RPP) is very important toguarantee the system operated in security, stability and economization. The objective ofRPP is using the least investment to improve the voltage quality in maximum, reducethe real power loss, and guarantee the system’s voltage stability by choosing the optimalplace, type and capacity.In this paper,making the voltage stability analysis as a breakthrough,static voltagestability analysis method is described and summarized. The characteristics of reactiveplanning, principle, the reactive power compensation device applications, optimizationalgorithms and mathematical models are also explained. The analysis and simulation ofthe example have been optimized comparison with different methods. Finally,combining with the fact of power grid of A,the planning and construction of effectivemethods for A is presented.
