The cooling system of the engine has a significant impact on the performance of engine,while the cooling fan is an important component of the cooling system, therefore, the coolingfan has a great influence on the engine performance. With the continuous development of theengine technology, the cooling fan is asked for higher requirements: smaller powerconsumption while providing sufficient heat dissipation. In order to meet the designrequirements, it’s necessary to have in-depth study on fan blade parameters, because theseparameters are directly related to the performance of the fan.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic theory of the engine cooling fan design,whichcontains the basic parameters of the axial flow fan and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)theory for the design of the engine cooling fan.Secondly, the performance of fan test system and how to acquire the test result arepresented. Then, this paper gives a in-depth research on how to use CFD method and Fluentsoftware to calculate the performances of fan. The performance of a fan model is establishedby CFD method. It is proved that CFD can predict the fan performances, so that it could sothat it could provide a lot of valuable reference and guidance for the fan design.Thirdly, this paper study single parameter of the blade which base on the CFDsimulation,to analyze its effect on the performance of the fan.The way of analysis is thatmodify a single parameter of the blade maintain the other parameters. By this way, to studythe impact of the main parameters of the fan blades on the performance of the fan, whichprovide a reference guide for the design of fan.At last, this paper introduces the method of orthogonal experimental design, to study theimpact of multiple blade parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the fan. By choosingeach blade parameters as the test factors and accomplishing a variety of fan performancesimulation analysis, orthogonal experiment method design of fan model is complete. And theoptimal parameters combination is given after the result analysis of orthogonal experimentaldesign is finished. Aerodynamic performance has been greatly improved. Orthogonalexperimental design provide a valuable way for fan optimum design.
