Photovolatic (PV) power generation which is renewable and clean energy has beendeveloping rapidly. The output of photovoltaic cell depends on light intensity largely.With the increase of capacity of photovoltaic, the influence of photovoltaicfluctuation on the microgrid (MG) stability becomes more and more serious. Thetechnique of traditional distributed generation system already can not meet theoperating requirement of microgrid.To solve this problem, a control strategy of PVpower system based on Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) is proposed in thisthesis, with which the output power of photovoltaic power generation is smoothedand the system can behave like a synchronous generator, adjusting its output powerdue to the voltage and frequency variation to stabilize MG.Firstly, this paper studied the dynamic modeling, the operation and thecorresponding control strategy of PV.The structure of distributed PhotovoltaicGeneration Systems is described. The Maximum Power Point Tracking control isdescribed.Secondly, according to the power-voltage properties of photovoltaic, a newinverter named Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) is designed in this paper. Therealization of the VSG control theory and the structure of it is described in detail.The principles and design of the speed regulator and excitation controller areintroduced.Thirdly, the model of microgrid system is built using MATLAB/SIMULINK.The impact of photovoltaic operation on microgrid stability was studied based on thepower-voltage characteristics of photovoltaic. The simulation of the paralleloperation of VSG is studied, including smoothing power of the photovoltaicgeneration and funetioning as a synchronous generator to microgrid.
