In modern power electronics, power converter is a device which could transform electrical energy from a form to another by components such as semiconductor, capacitor, inductor. According to the operating mode of voltage adjuster, power converters contain linear power converter and switching power converter.In the1960s, linear power converter are gradually replaced. Unfortunately, the output harmonic is serious, which generate undesirable impacts on accuracy and stability of switching power converter. Therefore, in some special applications, such as aerospace ground equipments, military shooting ranges and medical services, linear power converter with high accuracy and good stability is required to provide pure power, which confirms that it is still valuable. However, efficiency would be sacrificed if only using linear power converters. Consequently, according to requirements of manufacturer and the advantages of two types of power converter mentioned in this paper, a new linear power converter is designed.The main work contains several parts as follow:1. the development of power converter and its basic knowledge are summarized. In addition-the operating mechanism of power converter and circuit mode! are researched.2. According to requirements of the mission about power converter supplying to certain style of missile in ground, a new linear power converter, maximum output power is2800W, for military application is designed. Moreover, the analysis of operating principle, the parameter optimization, computer simulation and the verification experiment are discussed in this paper.3. Combining the problem encountered in practice and the dramatic advantages of linear power converter, such as small harmonic wave, high accuracy, fast response and high efficiency, the design is improved.A linear-switching mixed power converter with cascade connection is proposed. Moreover, relevant simulation is also analyzed in this paper. Finally, the development of high reliability and high power DC converter for military application is forecasted.
