Coastal soft soil has the same properties with soft soil such as high void ratio, small anti-shearing intensity, low permeability etc. Except for that, coastal soft soil has its unique characteristics also, such as high underground water level, large thickNess of the soft soil, without restriction in the foundation of two layers and so on. But engineers inevitably need built the highway on the soft soil, under the fill dead weight load, the subgrade has the instability problem and other hidden troubles. Because the reinforced embankments have its special advantages, the soft roadbed reinforcement treatment gets the wide attention from the engineering world. As for as now, the study of the reinforced embankments stability are limited to using traditional limit equilibrium method or finite element method, few people compared these two methods comprehensively.Choosing Beijing Lizheng Geotechnical Software as the traditional limit equilibrium method carrier, and choosing the Finite Element software Plaxis as the finite element method carrier, this paper presents a systematic and detailed comparison with these two methods from many aspects about soft soil embankment stability calculation. The result shows that Finite Element software Plaxis is better to simulate the complex construction fields, it may simulate the complex interactions between the interface of reinforced soil.Adopting the effective stress method (Bishop simplified method), which now is the most commonly used method in the world, and Shear Strength Reduction Method to do the analysis. By comparing the potential slip surface, axial force in the reinforced material and the factor of safety of the embankment, it shows that in the Finite Element software Plaxis, it would change the shape of potential slip surface because of the effect of the reinforced material, axial force in the reinforced material is not just has the relationship with the friction coefficient of the reinforced soil, but also changed by the reinforced position and the axial stiffness of the reinforced material etc. The computation result of Plaxis shows that after the completion of the embankment fill, the stability safety factor could significantly improved for the consolidation effect.Through the comprehensive comparison, launch the sensitivity analysis of the reinforced materials parameters by using Finite Element software Plaxis, it shows that the coefficient of friction can affect the subgrade failure modes.Reinforcement tension not only with the coefficient of friction and the stiffness of the reinforcement, but also reinforced embankment structure and the position of the reinforcement...
