The Leaky Coaxial Cable has the characteristics of both transmission lines andradiating antenna, so it can not only transmit electrical signals along its axis but alsoradiate electromagnetic waves along its radial direction Owing to the advantages ofuniform coverage on the radiated field, without blind zone and low coupling loss, LCXis recently widely used in wireless communication in the areas such as subways, tunnels,underground malls, mines and other buildings in blind zones. Therefore, the research onits technology is becoming a hot topic in the field of communication.Beginning with the basic theory of LCX, this paper introduced its structure,classification and three important performance indexes including operationfrequency-band, coupling loss and transmission attenuation, analyses its radiationmodels and discusses the method of bandwidth expansion of LCX single mode radiation.LCX requires different electrical properties due to different applications, The rules ofcoupling loss varying with the angle, length and pitch of eight-shaped slots is simulatedand analyzed, A method of adjusting the slot pitch is proposed with changing thedistance of the adjacent eight-shaped slot pairs, while unchanging the geometricalstructure parameters of a single eight-shaped slot pair, this method is of a certainreferences in engineering applications. Finally, the methods of LCX design andparameter optimization are introduced,which have good generality.
