The stability of slope is one of the most concerned issues. Up to now, there are many methods of stability of slope analysis, mainly including the limit equilibrium method and numerical analysis method. The strength reduction method is introduced to analyze the slope stability by the finite element method (FEM). Using FEM, geometry and material properties of rock are not restricted, which does not need to assume the shape and location of the slope failure surface. Directly, the strength reduction method obtains the slope safety factor and the most dangerous slip surface, and the whole process of slope failure can be simulated.Based on ANSYS and the strength reduction theory by finite element, four kinds of rock slope stability are analyzed. The main contents are as follows.(1) First of all, the methods of slope stability analysis are summarized, including the method of limit equilibrium, numerical analysis method, and so forth. In the analysis of slope stability, the research situation of the strength reduction finite element is emphatically introduced.(2) This paper mainly introduces the finite element theory in ANSYS, and in detail, summarizes how to determine the model parameters and make strength reduced numerically.(3) The rock slope failure forms include loosening, peristalsis, rock fall and landslide, proposed to the displacement mutation, the iteration step number mutation, connectivity of plastic zone as the instability criterion. Combining with three instability criteria, four kinds of rock slope are analyzed, from with the safety coefficient of slope and sliding surface is obtained. Compared the D-P1yield criterion with limit equilibrium method, the large error is deduced more than15%. Compared with D-P3equivalent area circle yield criterion, the error is smaller between1%and5%. So D-P3equivalent area circle yield criterion can better analyze the stability several kinds of rock slope.(4) In combination with the research achievements, according to analysis the stability of TONG-HUANG expressway slope, the superiority of the finite element strength reduction method is verified, which can better guide the actual project.
