Recently, light steel structural system has gradually become the new choice of housing construction as special property of steel structure and the national policy adjustments. Steel frame can provide plenty of room, but it is hard to satisfy the seismic resistance design of the structure in high intensity seismic regions as its lower lateral stiffness. The steel plate shear wall with two-side connections can solve this problem well. They can significantly improve the lateral stiffness of steel frame structure, at the same time, it processes the following advantages:they have flexible location arrangement, small possessed space and can reduce the reliability on frame columns. Above all, the steel plate shear wall with two-side connections is a good lateral load resisting systems.This article mainly outlines the development process and status of steel plate shear wall, cooperative work principles of frame and plate shear wall, formulas to structure lateral rigidity. The theory of finite element analysis and finite element analysis software SAP2000are also introduced.The right layout schemes, Plan A, based on the layout principle of houses was indentified in this paper, and its vibration characteristic was analyzed at the same time. The different plans of the steel plate shear wall with different location, Plan B C D, are analyzed with SAP2000, and the analysis model, Plan D, is determined used in this paper. Non-linear Time-History analysis is carried out for Plan A and Plan B under rare earthquake of eight degree. Three different earthquake wave working conditions are selected to compare the seismic performance of these two systems. The analysis focuses on the compare of acceleration response of the top, the displacement of the top, the acceleration of the top, the base shear and the story drift-angle. The conclusion shows that setting up the steel plate shear wall in steel frame structure can significantly improve the lateral stiffness of steel frame structure. At last, the relation of the thickness of steel plate shear wall and the lateral stiffness of steel frame structure and steel plate shear wall is analyzed.Through a trickle of studies, the properties of steel frame and steel plate shear wall are analyzed, which have certain meanings to push the application of steel plate shear wall in steel frame structures.
