This paper rely on the project from Chongqing traffic research and design institutecalled “The research on the material and structure of heave traffic asphalt pavement ofsmall radius horizontal curve” which is also a science and technology project ofYunnan province transportation department.Through Engineering practice, for the same mountain highway, the damage ofasphalt pavement of the bend section often happen earlier, and the disease is moreserious than the straight segment. This paper selects3typical mountainous area highwayfor survey of disease characteristics and traffic characteristics of small radius curvedasphalt pavement, the result shows that the damages of small radius corners asphaltpavement are traction and upheaval etc; in different curve radius, vehicle transversedistribution of the wheel track, speed and show their own characteristics. It shows thatthe centrifugal force which comes from braking deceleration and turning raised highrequirements to the shear ability of the corner pavement when the car into corners in thesituation of small corner.Considering the radius, Longitudinal slope, friction coefficient and asphalt mixturematerial properties and many other factors, using ANSYS analysis software, thenumerical simulation method, to research on asphalt pavement dynamic stress status ofthe small radius curve. The research shows that: with the change of radius of the bend, longitudinal gradient, friction coefficient, Poisson’s ratio, elastic modulus, the maximumshear stress within pavement structure layer of asphalt show their own characteristics.Through a large number of experiments, the result of the research on materials andstructure of small radius curved asphalt pavement shows that different kinds of asphaltor adding fiber, PR MODULE additive in the asphalt mixture have significant influenceon the shear resistance of asphalt mixture. It is often very weak between asphalt layersand easier to be damaged. This paper selects matrix asphalt, modified asphalt, modifiedemulsified asphalt, solvent-based binder and other common interlayer bonding materialsto work between each layer, the result shows that the shear resistance has alsosignificantly improved. Finally, compared with the test data and the calculated value andrecommend the scheme which is applicable to the small radius corners of asphaltpavement materials and structures.
