As the development of vehicle industry, the application of polymers is becoming wider, especially in the vehicle instrument panel. Vehicle instrument panel is made up of many polymers. In order to carry out Head-Impact simulation of the instrument panel, the dynamic features of these polymers must be researched. This paper uses SAMP-1material model to describe the characteristic of PP material and get the true stress-true strain curve by the basic test of PP, which is needed by SAMP-1material model. Finally, it uses the material model to carry out Head-Impact simulation of the instrument panel.Firstly, this paper specifically introduce the yield condition, flow rule, hardening rule, rate effects, damage and failure rule of SAMP-1material model. Which shows that material model relies on the true stress-true strain curve.Secondly, this paper describes the back analysis of the true stress-true strain curve, applies the method of separating phases and G’Sell correction formulas to get the curve mentioned above. The more specific process as follows:it uses LS-DYNA Explicit analysis algorithm to simulate the process of material tensile, compress and shear, compares test stroke-load curve and calculated stroke-load curve to optimize the input true stress-true strain curve, and then get the accurate one. Finally, the paper carries out the Head-Impact simulation of vehicle instrument panel. Combined with SAMP-1material model of PP, it chooses the method of penalty function as the contact-impact algorithm to simulate the Head-Impact of instrument panel. Calculation error is acceptable when compared with the test result. This shows that this simulation can be used as a standard sample to optimize the structure and safety of the instrument panel.
