As climate warming and energy shortage problem is getting worse, more and more people pay close attention to the effective use of solar energy. Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSC) is a new kind of solar cell with the advantage of abundant raw materials, simple manufacture process and environment friendly features. The traditional DSCs using conductive glass are heavy and easily broken, limiting the application range of the DSCs. DSCs with substrate of conductive plastic are flexible, transparent and has a light quality, fitting for large-scale roll-ro-roll operation. In this paper, high efficient conductive plastic based DSCs were studied. In order to prepare high effieieney DSCs, we modified the preparation methods of photo electrode (PE) and counter electrode (CE), and then large-area plastic DSCs were made.First of all, a simple dip coating method of Pt CE preparation was first introduced to CE manufactured on indium tin oxide-polyethylene naphthalate (ITO/PEN) film. After modifieding the soaking liquid ingredients and optimizing the manufacture conditions, the DSCs using this transparent flexible CE gave power conversion efficiency (PCE) amounted to97%of sputtering Pt electrode.Secondly, three kinds of PE paste were made. Photoelectric properties showed paste made with commercial TiO2P25powder was better. Investigation on film thickness and pressure indicated PE film with the thickness of10μm and static pressure treatment of150MPa showed the best performance. The efficiency of the DSC using modified PE with area of0.5cm×0.5cm reached5.05%.Finally, the preparation process of large area of plastic based DSCs were explored, better low temperature silver paste and conductive plastc substrate was chosed, and all flexible large area DSCs were successfully made.
