As the development of the large-scale ship, depth of natural waterway cannot meet the requirement of navigation of large vessels, artificial waterway is being constructed to ensure that the navigation of large vessels. Since shallow depth of certain ports, it needs to increase the scale of natural waterways, resulting in complex flow field within the fairway, affect the safety of navigation. For large ship, this channel is limited not only by the depth of the channel, but also by the channel width. This paper studies the slope-bank effect of the VLCC tankers when it sailing off the course centerline in deepening relatively large artificial waterway. This research mainly includes three parts:In the first part, it mainly elaborates the concept and factors of slope-bank effect as well as the formula of slope-bank force and slope-bank moment, introduces research results at home and abroad, also with the computational fluid dynamics theory and the used numerical simulation tools—FLUENT.In the second part, it mainly introduces the artificial channel by simulation, using FLUENT software for three-dimensional modeling and simulation; define the boundary conditions and the numerical calculation. In the third part, focusing on the numerical results, analyzes the impact on ship navigation since the resulting slope-bank force and moment., based on the findings, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
