Cooling tower noise pollution has been paid more and more attention, especially for the residents close to the power plant, the noise of the cooling tower affect their normal work and life seriously.so we should take the necessary noise reduction measures to solve it, but the power plants should also be to ensure the cooling effect of cooling tower when they take the noise reduction measures.This article take the natural-ventilation cooling tower as the research object,set up cooling tower muffler model and cooling tower numerical calculation model, calculated the resistance characteristics (aerodynamic performance) of muffler by the cooling tower muffler model, analyzed the muffler’s influence on the cooling effect of cooling tower by cooling tower numerical calculation model based on the noise reduction measures of cooling tower muffler.The calculation results show that airflow velocity and muffler structure are the important factors that determine the aerodynamic performance of muffler. Muffler resistance loss is proportional to the square of the velocity of airflow through the muffler. The bigger of airflow velocity, the worse of muffler’s aerodynamic performance. In the case of given speed, small silencing piece spacing and big installation angle of muffler has worse aerodynamic performance. We can see from the calculation results, installing different mufflers have different impact on cooling tower. The smaller distance of muffler to cooling tower, the bigger silencing piece spacing, the bigger installation angle of muffler, the worse adverse effects on cooling tower, but the noise reduction effect is better. So we can see the best way of decreasing noise and the best economical of operation do not happen at the same time. Therefore we choose best structure parameters of muffler and installation position to ensure the cooling effect of cooling tower according to the actual noise reduction requirements. Silencing the spacing is150mm, the installation Angle is30°f the muffler and Silencing the spacing is100mm, the installation Angle is0°of the muffler have the same aerodynamic performance. So they have the same effect on amount of wind and outlet water temperature of cooling tower. If two kinds of mufflers arrange the same length around the cooling tower, Silencing the spacing is150mm of muffler need less blades. So if they both can satisfy the requirement of noise reduction, trying to use this kind of muffler, because it can reduce investment.Synthetically comparing:the muffler of silencing the spacing is150mm, radially arranged in the cooling tower at around4~5m, can meet the requirement of noise reduction of10dB and have less influence on the cooling tower. Ventilation rate of decline in1.844%~2.562%, Outlet water temperature rise between0.105℃~0.151℃. Within the acceptable range.The results of the paper can provide a certain reference for power plant reducing the noise of cooling tower by using muffler and have a certain engineering application value...
