In order to maximize the use of solar energy, this paper focuses on the PV powergeneration system, which includes modeling of PV systems and maximum powerpoint tracking (MPPT) methods for PV arrays. Firstly, the basic principium ofphotovoltaic cell is analyzed. The simulation models of PV array and BOOSTconverter are built based on MATLAB/Simulink. The MPPT control algorithm offoundation is built.Secondly, the foundation of output characteristics of PV array and simulationmodels is introduced. MPPT theory and various MPPT algorithms are introduced inthe literature. Furthermore, the principle of commonly used MPPT algorithms isanalyzed, and their advantages and disadvantages were compared, in order to avoidweaknesses, improving the tracking speed and stability, optimizing tracking step andtrack cycle. Based on those researches, it proposes an adaptive step size algorithm.The paper proposes a new MPPT algorithm based on adaptive step size controlalgorithm. The simulation study of MATLAB combined with PV cells based on newalgorithms. The perfect simulated results are obtained. At the same time, the trackingresults between traditional method and new method are compared through MATLABsimulation. The new method can achieve a better performance tracking controlled bythe simulation results.Finally, the project work is summarized in the paper and then some suggestionson further work.
