With the application of advanced science and technology, the technical content of the various products is increasing, which puts forward higher requirements for maintenance training. The virtual maintenance training becomes a new field of research. This paper describes the importance of cognitive load theory in the virtual maintenance training, and analyzes the features of cognitive load.First of all, this paper introduces the concept and research background of virtual maintenance training, and expound the current status from the domestic and foreign research. The paper put forwards the research direction, which is the cognitive load research in the virtual maintenance training. In addition, the paper introduces the relevant theoretical knowledge which is applied to the research, including the contents of the virtual maintenance training, cognitive mechanism of virtual maintenance training, the concept of cognitive load, cognitive load classification, the principle of reducing cognitive load and the evaluation methods of cognitive loadMoreover, based on the principles of reducing cognitive load, the paper tests and verifies problem completion effect and attention dispersion effect on the cognitive load by comparative designed experiments. Finally, the paper studies the characteristics of cognitive load indicators in the virtual maintenance training. Based on the single dimension of the research, we assess the cognitive load level in the virtual maintenance training system synthetically by building the probabilistic neural network and competitive neural network. The paper also studies the characteristics of cognitive load indicators in the continuous virtual training, and build the radial basis neural network to forecast the cognitive load indicators.
