In recent years, with the rapid development of Chinese economy and electric power technology, the demand for electricity is constantly increasing. Therefore, the application of high-voltage power cables both in urban and rural have became more and more popular.High-voltage power transmission cable is important in power transmission equipment, which has played a key role in its power load security, stability, transport. However, if the shoddy high-voltage power cables are used in the production, construction, testing, it may probably cause the serious problems in the operating process for the influence of environment, thermal, mechanical, chemical and other factors.In order to ensure the stability of cables, reliable operation, grasp the normal operation in time is really necessary, on the other hand, research on the cause of the accident, the state of power cables testing method and experience are also highlighted.Based on the experience of cable installation and commission, the author takes the110kV Tian’an Chemical substation high voltage cable fault cause analysis as sample, uses the basic structural principle of the power cables as the method to research the deep reason of the cable failure. Meanwhile, the paper also prove that through analyzing the innovative AC voltage withstand test, the over test of cable in site and failure lookup will ensure the safety of power cables and reliable in operation.In this paper, innovation in research and exploration power cable failure analysis and test methods are based upon the following four aspects:1) The basic structure of high-voltage power cables;2) The high-voltage power cable failure cause analysis;3) The high-voltage power cables projects and transfer standards carried;4) Research on the trouble shooting program of high-voltage power cable AC voltage withstand test methods;Through the high-voltage power cable fault cause analysis and the research on innovative test methods, we are able to determine that the standardization of every aspect as production, transportation, construction, field testing in the operation will surely keep the probability of failure at hand. Also, the timely monitoring and maintenance of cables after they had being used, will make great sense. Hence, the long-term stable operation of power cables is of great significance. This paper, targeting at solving problems discussed above, analyzed the process of the operation, pointed out an innovative test methods and testing tools an innovative test methods and testing tools.
