We need to reflect on how to compress the power quality data effectively and how to reduce the storage space and transmission time. It become a new topic, the Power researchers are keeping in In-depth exploration.This article focuses on the power quality data compression, The data by collected, first of all should pass a lossy compression, discard some information we do not need, Completed the first step of compression, On this basis, then carries on the secondary compression. That is lossy compression. By the two compressions can reduce storage space and transmission efficiency. The beginning of the article, give a short overview about the development of power quality monitoring technology and power quality data. Figure out it’s defects and the future development trend. In the context of the growing power system, Points out the great significance of data compression of power quality monitoring. From the perspective of signal processing, Describes the principle and classification of data compression, as well as some common data compression algorithm. On this basis, A detailed description is given on the principle of the LZ series compression algorithm and the compression process, Analysis the pros and cons of LZ77algorithm and it’s improved algorithm, of as well as LZ78algorithm and LZW algorithm, LZW algorithm is simple in principle, higher efficiency, For higher similarity data, compression effect is better. This article Carried out a detailed introduction about the compression principle of Fourier transform and wavelet transform, they all belong lossy compression, give a comparison to them. Processing these signals by wavelet transform processing, realize the signal’s lossy compression.
