Traveling Wave Fault Location for lightning, traveling wave generated by lightning strikes point impact makes the fold of the traveling wave in the transmission line, the reflection process becomes particularly complex. When the line occur non-fault lightning, line does not exist obvious points of failure, it makes traveling wave line communication does not fold, reflected conditions. When occur line failure lightning, lightning strike point and the point of failure positional relationship will make the traveling wave propagation path. These effects so that, for the lightning fault conditions existing all kinds of single-ended and double-ended traveling wave fault location method is no longer applicable. This paper against lightning failure unique traveling wave propagation characteristics, for non-fault lightning and fault lightning proposed, different strike point and the point of failure traveling wave location method. In this paper, the main contents are as follows:1. Introduced the traveling wave basic theory. Analyzed transmission lines popular wave and voltage traveling wave propagation characteristics, laid a solid theoretical foundation for based on the principle of the traveling wave transmission line lightning fault location method.2. On the basis of analysis and research on composition of high-voltage transmission line,running characteristics and fault feature, Set up simulation model of transmission line and lightning current module by using the ATP electromagnetic simulation software, and in view of the fault on the transmission line lightning,non-fault of lightning and lightning specific ways round attack and counterattack, on the transmission line model is built by simulation to run, running results show that the model meets the requirement of transmission line operation.3. Non-fault occurred when the transmission line lightning strike, proposed the use is not affected by velocity of single ended traveling wave location method, this method only using the line segment single-terminal data, and the calculation is not affected by the influence of wave speed, the more accurate positioning results.4. Analysis of the fault current at both ends of the line when the lightning point and the fault point have different positional relationships, and proposed a method of discrimination both positional relationship.5. For the lightning point and fault point location are the same or ordinary short-circuit fault, analysis the first three waves of the single-ended traveling wave. First, the real-time communication device installed at both ends of the line, according to the arrival time of the first three waves of the head to determine the point of failure type.Then eliminate wave velocity v.Finally, find the location of the point of failure.Simulation results show that proposed for non-fault lightning and lightning fault the lightning point and fault location method is feasible, fault location accuracy higher.
