The transformer oil level monitoring is the premise to ensure that the safe operation oftransformer, which plays an important role in the power system. There are many ways fortransformer oil level detection. Generally, according to the working principles, transformer oillevel detection method can be divided into mechanical control and digital control. Formechanical method, mechanical detection system has advantages of low cost, and it is easierto control. In the practical application, it is not necessary for operators to grasp advancedtechnology, which can meet the requirements of people. However, it has the disadvantages ofcomplex structure, inconvenient operation and high transmission error. When the load oftransformer increases or the other conditions changes, it would lead to transmission mistakes.Moreover, only the switch signal would be output, which can’t provide the real-time valuemeasured. On the basis of solving the disadvantages of mechanical detection method, thedigital method can improve the detection accuracy of the system. Therefore, the method hasbecome a more practical and effective method, which has been widely used in many fields.Considering of practicality, economy and accuracy, the paper has done some research anddesigned the digital transformer oil level detection system. The design takes the AVRmicrocontroller as the core controller, carrying on acquisition and processing of analogsignals, and it has designed the AD converter, keyboard input, LCD, buzzer alarm and theother function system. System designing includes the designing of hardware and software.hardware designing includes the designing of single-chip peripheral circuits, power supply,two sensor circuit, AD conversion circuit, LCD circuit, button alarm circuit and thecommunication bus; software designing the mainly contains the designing ofprogram,implementation and AD converter, LCD programming, timer interrupt programmingand Modbus communication program. Meanwhile, the real-time varied transformer oil levelvalues acquired in different temperatures are processed in the form of20°C equivalentamount, which can reserve the current oil level value into RAM unit of MCU in the form.MCU can display the current oil level equivalent value in the form in real-time, which isconvenient for the detection and controlling of transformer.
