Salbutamo(lSAL)one of the artificially synthesized beta-agonists, possesses thecapability of promoting animal growth with increased accretion of skeletal musclemass and decreased deposition of body fat. This repartitioning agent, also called―leanness enhancer‖, may be still used illegally as a substitute for clenbuterol in someareas around the world to improve the efficiency of feed conversion.However,numerous literatures have reported the poisoning effects and potential hazards ofbeta-agonists including cardiac palpitation, tachycardia, nervousness, muscle tremorsand confusion Up to now, various analytical methods for the determination of SAL infeed have been described. They include high-performance liquid chromatography,liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry, gas chromatography–massspectrometry, capillary electrophoresis and immunoassays. These confirmatorymethods based on chromatographic approaches can provide both qualitative andquantitative detection results with satisfactory sensitivity and reproducibility.However, they are time-consuming, require expensive instrumentation, and thus arenot suitable for on-sites use. Immunological methods are special and sensitive, butstill not simple enough, and the detecting range and stability need to be improved. Theobjective of this experiment was to develop a novel electrochemical method forquickly, simply and cheaply determining SAL concentrations in samples. Thefollowing are the procedure of developing the methods:To develop a method of differential pulse electrochemical sensor for detectingSalbutamol, the electrochemical behavior of Salbutamol was investigated with glasscarbon electrode(GCE)and standard curve was established. The results showed that,under the conditions of pH8.14,0.05mol·L-1of Tris-HCL buffer,90s of traceenrichment time,50mV·S-1of scanning speed, the linear detectable range was0.4mg·L-110mg·L-1, the formula of the standard curve was Y=0.60675+0.10421X(R=0.99771,p<0.0001), the recovery, detectable limit were97.65%and0.08mg·L-1,respectively, and the detecting time was less than5minutes. It can be concludedthat the differential pulse electrochemical method for detecting Salbutamol is quick,cheap and convenient, suitable for detecting a large number of samples.
