From Oct.2009to Aug.2010, an investigation on the distribution of6species of Enteromorpha:E. linza, E. intestinalis, E. prolifera, E. compressa, E. flexuosa and E. clathrata along the coastal area of Bohai Sea and South China Sea had been made, and the population feature of the6species were preliminary evaluated. As the morphological features of Enteromorpha usually changed in different periods of life history and environments, nuclear rDNA ITS sequence was applied to define the species of Enteromorpha besides morphological identification methods. Compared with historical data, the variation in diversity and population feature of the6species of Enteromorpha in each location was analysed. And the results would serve the subsequent research in molecular geography, environmental indicator, bioremediation and biological resources. The main results were as follows:Bohai Sea:1) E. linza and E. intestinalis were the the most spread species, especially E. linza which were even found in Yellow River estuary; The biomass of free-floating E. prolifera in Qinhuangdao was large. E. compressa and E. flexuosa only distributed in the south area of Bohai Sea and E. clathrata was the rarest species which was only found in Zhangzi Island.2) In Bohai Sea, Enteromorpha concentratedly distributed in boundary area but seldom in the three bays.3) Islands in Bohai Sea were concentrated distribution area of Enteromorpha, too.4) Enteromorpha were more suitable for artificial basement than other algae.5) The sample collected from Yellow River estuary was identified as E. linza by ITS sequences, and the sequence was aligned with other6ones of E. linza samples from other locations in Bohai Sea.The results showed the identity of these sequences was high.South China Sea:1) E.linza and E. intestinalis were the the most spread species, too, it’s contradicted with historic records that E. linza was a rare species in South China Sea. Just as described in records, E.prolifera mainly distributed in north of Hainan and E. flexuosa was widely distributed. E. compressa was only found in Guangdong and E. clathrata was also the rarest species and Dongfang was the only habitat can be found.2) Mangrove beach in South China Sea was concentrated distribution area of Enteromorpha.3) Coastal areas suffered by frequent human activities could also be suitable habitat of Enteromorpha.4)7samples collected from6locations in South China Sea were identified as E. intestinalis by ITS sequences, the results was identical with morphological identification. The alignments results showed the identity of these sequences was high.1...
