Streptococcus suis Serotype2is an important pathogen of zoonoses, which causes meningitis in pigs and represents a high health risk forhuman related to porcine industry. With the development of intensiveporcine breeding, the disease induced by S.suis is more and moreepidemic. Two outbreaks causing severe acute diseases in humans withhigh morbidity and mortality were reported in China, in1998and in2005,respectively, which were clinically featured with streptococcal toxicshock syndrome, bringing huge losses.PCR assay was used to investigate the epidemiology and resistantgenes of S.suis2in Shanghai, and drug resistance of the S.suis2strainsisolated in this research was tested by using K-B method. In addition, therelationship between drug resistance and resistant genes of S.suis2wasstudied in this assay. The results showed that the detection rate of Streptococcus suis andStreptococcus suis Serotype2were41.2%(103/250) and12.4%(31/250).Moreover, most isolated strains were resistant to streptomycin, tetracycline, and chloramphenicol, and multiresistance was found, moststrains were resistant to more than four kinds of drugs. TetM gene, gyrAgene and parC gene could be amplified in all of these31S.suis2strains.The homology of these31tetM was100%. S.suis-28, which might be aSer to Arg mutant at the position81of gyrA, S.suis-6, which might be aArg to Leu mutant at the position87of parC, and S.suis-17, which might be a Ser to Phe mutant at the position79of parC, were resistant tofluoroquinolone.
