Maize is one of the most significant cultivated crops in China and the world, the plantingareas and total yield of Maize in China have ranked the third surpassing wheat since2004.China is the second largest producer and consumer of maize after the USA, and plays animportant part in international market supply and demand of maize. With the improvement ofthe living standard, people’s food composition has changed with demand for poultry productsgrowing exponentially, inducing a significant increase of demand for maize and prominentcontradictions between total product and total demand. To alleviate this contradiction, it ismore and more important to improve the quality, utilization efficiency and appropriability ofmaize, and it is an essential way to improve quality of maize by speeding up the selection ofhigh quality maize inbred lines. In this paper, the quality of87inbred lines maize materials breeding in17Shanxi,28Shaanxi,17Xinjiang,25Hebei province, and110inbred lines originated24Reid,68Huangzaosi,4Luda Red Cob, and14other source group were evaluated. Quality differencebetween maize materials from different ecology areas and origins, and relationship betweendifferent qualities were researched, which provided reference and basic materials for theselection of high quality and yield maize in our province.1. The quality of87inbred lines maize materials used in breeding in Shanxi, Shaanxi,Xinjiang, Hebei province were evaluated. The results showed that difference of starch contentbetween materials form Xinjiang and from the other three ecology areas was highlysignificant. Inbred lines of Shanxi should be the foundation for selecting parents or breedinginbred lines with high protein and high crude fat. To breed high starch, high protein, high oilmaize at different ecology conditions, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Xinjiang and Hebei, ecology areas ofhigh nutrients should be chosen firstly with breeding materials of high nutrients beingconsidered secondly. For maize of high starch inbred line breeding, materials in Xinjiangecology area should be chosen primarily. Inbred line materials in Shanxi could be givenpriorities for high fat or high protein maize breeding.2. Variance analyses on the quality of110inbred lines originated Reid, Huangzaosi,Luda Red Cob and other source showed that crude fat among population was not significant, there was extreme significant difference among population on starch, protein, lysine and 100-grains weight, and there was great range and variation coefficient in crude fat and protein, with small range and variation coefficient in starch. Correlations among traits like crude fat, starch, protein, Lys,100-grains weight, and so on of every population were analyzed, it wassuggested that protein and starch, Lys and protein both presented significant negativecorrelation, while Lys and protein presented high positive correlation.
