Due to lack of rainfall, the scarcity of water resources is the mainlimiting factor for maize production in the northwest arid area in Jilinprovince.A field experiment with the orthogonal experimental design wascarried out to study on the effect of different methods of water irrigation,replenishment quantity, fertilization and different types of nitrogenfertilizer elements on maize yield in the northwest arid area of Jilinprovince. Based on this experiment, the aim of "utilizing the fertilizerwith water and the water with fertilizer " has been achieved, and withbetter soil water and fertilizer base, we hope to improve the traditionalcultivation pattern., so as to increase the yield of maize in this area. Themain conclusions are as follows:1. Irrigation period and amount are the main factors which affect themaize yield. The treatment of latter irrigation could significantly improvethe maize yield, so does the increase of irrigation amount. With thetreatment of irrigation amount to the degree of80percent of fieldmoisture capacity makes the highest yield, which was increased by5.4%than the average yield. 2. Methods of water irrigation are important factors which affect theyield of maize. Drip irrigation could significantly improve maize yieldcomponent factors, and the yield of maize. The result of maze yieldadopted drip irrigation was increased2.7%than irrigation yield, increased6.93%compared to no irrigation.3. Nitrogen application rate and nitrogen types affected maize yieldextremely. Analysis of variance showed that there is a significantdifference between common urea and sulfur coated urea. Sulfur coatedurea has sustained release effect, and could significantly increase maizeyield in late grain-form period. The treatment with nitrogen applicationrate of100kg/ha by booting stage was increased5.0%than commonurea of maize yield. But with nitrogen application rate of100kg/ha bylarge bell stage saw the highest yield, maize yield first increased and thendecreased with the increase of nitrogen top dressing by usage commonurea.4. Regression analysis showed that maize yield by usage sulfur coatedurea model increase7%than that of normal urea from the experiment. So,management measures of sulfur coated urea plus water replenishmentmode in maize growth period should be recommended in this region.To sum up, the treatment with water replenishment to80%of fieldcapacity in booting stage, with drip irrigation method, no fertilizer inputwas the best combination treatment for maize production, with which maize yield could achieve a degree of10799kg/ha in the semi-arid areasof Jilin Province.
