L-carnitine supplementary effects were studied in broilers with low Methionine leveldiets.Three hundred Avine broilers were randomly alloted to five groups, each of whichconsisted of three replicates (twenty birds each replicate). The basal diet was supplemented(Methionine was0.28%;0.23%)with50or100mg/kg L-carnitine and0or0.05%Methionine in Ⅰ~Ⅳ group.0.1%Methionine was added to the basal diet in control group. After feeding trials, eighteen chicks were picked out from the groups on the base of similarlive weight and slaughtered. Breast muscles, liver, fat and serum samples were collectedfor laboratory analysis. The results of trial indictated that:1. With no Methionine,50mg/kg L-carnitinesupplementary made growth performance dropand100mg/kg L-carnitine supplementaryhad no apparently effects on growth performance of broilers. With0.1%Methionine,50or100mg/kg L-carnitine supplementary improved growth performance of broilers.2.Abdominal fat and liver fat aggradation could be decreased by supplement with50mg/kgL-carnitine and0.05%Methionine. L-carnitine could decrease serum cholesterol and TG,and increase serum HDL-cholesterol and phospholipid, there was most obvious effect by50or100mg/kg L-carnitine supplementary with0.05%Methionine.3. L-carnitinesupplement in low Methionine increased breast muscles rate, contents of CP and serumtotal protein, and had a tendency to decrease contents of serum uric acid. There was mostobvious effect by50or100mg/kg L-carnitine supplementary with0.05%Methionine.4.There was effect on contents of myoglobin in breast muscles by L-carnitine supplement inlower Methionine, but there was no effect on pH. Contents of myoglobin in breast muscleswas increased by50or100mg/kg L-carnitine supplementary with0.05%Methionine.5.50mg/kg L-carnitine and0.05%Methionine supplemented in the basal diet improved growthperformance, lipid metabolism, protein metabolism.
