Seed germination and seedling establishment is nearly related to species composition and distribution of plant community. The vegetation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is mainly composed by alpine meadow and alpine shrub. Because legumes is a important component of the plant community, therefore research to the process of legumes planting has a important significance. Also many legumes are important forages, so the research about legumes planting can provide important reference for herbage nurture and planting. However, most of the literature investigated planting within one stages, and the less paid attention to the difference among all stages of the planting. Thus, we investigate each stage of the planting process to research the effect of light on planting process. We expected to provide the theoretic evidence by our study on the grassland restoration and pasture planting. Results are as follows:1) In the seed germination stage, light influenced the seed germination of seven kinds of species. Light promoted the seed germination of six species including Oxytropis kansuensis,Medicago ruthenica, Oxytropis ochrocephala, Tibetia himalaica, Medicago lupulina,Astragalus adsurgens. But inhibited the seed germination of Vicia sativa.2) In the seedling survival stage, light influenced the seedling survival on three kinds of legumes including Tibetia himalaica Hedysarum tanguticum, Medicago lupulina, and weak light should lead to seedling death.3) For the different stages of the same plant, we should adopt different light intensity on each stage.4) Legumes will have a maximum biomass by shade moderately(67%NS),and shade will cause the plant to allocate more resources to the aerial part.5) The relationship between seed size and germination, establishment rate were positive correlation. But the relationship has Light-dependent.6) The difference between seed size and biomass, root-shoot ratio was actually caused by the inherent differences between different species.
