Facial paralysis is the impediment of the facial movement muscles caused by thedamage of the facial nerve. The most representative model is the bell’s Facial paralysis.The nerve injury usually results in significant psychological and functional disability. fromthe facial expression, communication and oral competence. So the correct evaluation ofthe degree of facial paralysis is very important to the assessment of facial nerve ability,prognosis and evaluation of curative effect. In recent years, many clinicians have designedand developed many facial paralysis evaluation and grading scales to find a scientific,perfect and reliable method. Up to now, the facial paralysis patients are mainlysubjectively evaluated by trained clinicians. The results are based on the individualexperience and the large interobserver disagreement limit the clinical utility. To solve theabove problems, this paper raised a novel objective evaluation method based on thecomputer which is different from the ones existed.Firstly, explained the principle and technique parameter of medical infrared thermalimaging system. And obtain the patients’facial temperature data use the medical infraredthermal imaging system. According with the facial information obtained from thevisualized infrared thermal image. Raised the objective and quantitative evaluationmethod of Bell’s facial paralysis based on the facial temperature feature. Make use of theinfrared thermal temperature measuring software to gather facial temperature data, anddemonstrated the feasibility of this idea by the medical statistic method.Secondly, design an algorithm to dispose and research the obtained facial data.Mainly research the visualization method of the facial infrared thermal image, use theimage segmentation, corner detection and other method to analysis the image ,and thenestablish the coordinate of front, left and right side of face respectively, ensure theacupuncture point of the face and segment the front of the face.Finally, according to the practical problem of this paper, designed BP neural networksclassifier, and make use of the obtained facial data to train and test the classifier, after thisstep, ues it to measure the degree of the facial paralysis patients. From the results, we cancome to the conclusion that the objective and quantitative evaluation method of Bell’s facial paralysis based on the facial temperature feature is effective to recognize the facialparalysis degree, and could provide useful reference to clinical treatment.The purpose of this paper is to set up an objective, accurate evaluation method. whichcan be easily accepted by clinicians and patients, to instead of the traditional subjectiveevaluation method.
