Objective:In order to explore the correlation between CRP, visfatin and chemerin and PCOS, we analyzed the relationship between CRP, visfatin, chemerin and BMI,WHR, sexual hormones, the metabolism of glucose and lipid levels. Methods:Fifty women with PCOS were selected based on the revised 2003 consensus on diagnostic criteria in The Rotterdam Conference. Fifty women with PCOS was again divided into obese and non-obese groups based on body mass index (BMI), insulin resistance group and non insulin resistance group by HOMA-IR index (HOMA-IRI). And another twenty-two healthy women of the same age were recruited as a control group. Serum level CRP was measured by immunoturbidimetry in all participants, and that of visfatin and chemerin were assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results:The serum levels of CRP(1.61±1.51mg/L), visfatin(50.09±21.80μg/ L), chemerin(5.02±2.91ng/L) in patiens with PCOS are higher than those controls (0.71±0.5mg/L、35.06±13.58μg/L、2.24±1.59ng/L, t=2.46~2.97, P<0.05). The patients with PCOS obese and non-obese groups presented markedly higher serum levels of CRP, visfatin and chemerin than those in controls(F= 11.07,8.82 and 4.21, respectively, P<0.05); levels of CRP and chemerin were higher in obese group than those in non-obese group (q=4.88 and 3.41, respectively, P<0.05); and levels of visfatin and chemerin were higher in non-obese group than those in controls (q=3.34 and 3.29, respectively, P<0.05); The serum levels of CRP, visfatin, chemerin in insulin resistance group are higher than those in controls (F=4.71、3.34、8.34, q=4.44、3.18、5.68, P<0.05), the chemerin level in insulin resistance group is higher than it in non insulin resistance group (F=8.34, q=4.90, P<0.05). Spearson analysis revealed that serum levels of CRP and chemerin positively correlated with BMI and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance, respectively (r=0.34-0.65, P<0.05); but serum level of visfatin was no obvious correlation with CRP, BMI and chemerin. Conclusions:A chronic inflammation possibly exists in patients with PCOS, which may be one of the reason that cause their serum CRP, visfatin and chemerin level increased.
