The Morphology Study Of The Waist Musclegroup With Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT)

Objective: We provide the CSA and CT number et al, though using thereconstructed image of MDCT scan,measure the waist musclegroup for the judging ofthe disease pathogenesis,interfere function et al.At the same time comparing the groupof different gender and age,providing the detailed measurment dataMethods: Collected240cases of the reconstructed image betweenSemptember2010to April2011from Department of Radiology China-Japan UnionHospital Jilin University(including medical patients and low back painpatients).Measrue the cross-sectional area and average CT number of psoas majormuscle,quadratus lumborum muscle,erector spinae muscle in defferent lumbar level.20-29year old divide into A group,29-39divide into group B,39-49years old divideinto group C,49-59years old divide into group D,59-69years old divide into group E,70-79years old divide into group F.Each group has fourty patients(male20cases,female20cases).Check out the interference of metal before scan. Instructedpatients supine lie low, relax and settle breathing.We use the Toshiba Activion16rowhelical CT scanning instrument in the study. Scanning parameters:120kv voltage,250mA current,1mm thick layer, volume scanning which distance between the layeris1mm. Application the Xiphoid software for the data of measurement andanalysis.SPSS16.0software package was applied to statistical in both parts ofstudy.Measurement data contrast use t-test,and enum eration data comparison withchi-square test.Statistically significant difference was defined as P value less than0.05.Results: The average cross-section area (CSA) of male’s psoas major musclefrom A group to F is14.18cm~2,14.18cm~2,13.92cm~2,11.66cm~2,11.11cm~2,10.32cm~2.Theaverage CT number is52.85HU,51.19HU,46.99HU,43.56HU,40.88HU,39.51HU。The average CSA of female’s psoas major muscle from A group to F is7.54cm~2,8.20cm~2,8.16cm~2,8.18cm~2,7.59cm~2,7.06cm~2.The average CT number is 48.51HU,45.13HU,41.02HU,37.52HU,36.46HU,31.11HU.The average CSA of male’s quadratus lumborum muscle from A group to F is13.40cm~2,13.53cm~2,3.33cm~2,11.17cm~2,10.57cm~2,9.73cm~2.The average CT number is53.16HU,51.54HU,46.81HU,43.25HU,40.65HU,39.36HU.The average CSA of female’s quadratus lumborum muscle from A group to F is8.12cm~2,8.83cm~2,8.84cm~2,8.83cm~2,8.22cm~2,7.68cm~2.The average CT number is48.71HU,45.33HU,40.97HU,37.18HU,36.17HU,31.09HU.The average CSA of male’s erector spinae muscle from A group to F is16.93cm~2,16.81cm~2,16.57cm~2,13.78cm~2,13.33cm~2,12.52cm~2.The average CT numberis52.1HU,50.31HU,46.10HU,41.93HU,39.06HU,37.59HU.The average CSA of female’s erector spinae muscle from A group to F is10.90cm~2,11.78cm~2,11.65cm~2,11.31cm~2,10.59cm~2,10.18cm~2.The average CT numberis47.42HU,44.34HU,39.92HU,35.47HU,33.41HU,26.99HU.Conclusions: Through analysing the image reconstruction of240cases,multidetector-row CT can clearly show the waist musclegroup and the anatomicalstructure of adjacent organs around, and to have a good resolution at the density ofbone. But the accurate partition of erector spinae muscle is a little bad. Due to thedecrease in the number of aging muscle fiber, fat deposition, the cross-sectional areaof different age groups decline,especially in the39-49years old age group. The waistmuscle groups in different gender have different measurement,men’s CSA of muscleis a slightly bigger than women’s, and the changing tendency is also different,thecurve of women decline slightly earlier than men’s. Combined with clinical material,the vertebral stability and waist muscle group are closely related, the morphologicalof waist muscle group often changed when the physiological curvature lateral bendingor slippage. The Morphology Parameter such as waist muscle group cross-sectionalarea and CT value provide the powerful guiding data for clinical diagnosis,treatment,rehabilitation exercise,etal.
