ObjectivesExercise-induced injury of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is common, and arthroscopic reconstruction is the most widely used therapy at present. This study was to explore the relevant factors on affecting motion and psychological condition of patients who undergone arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, so as to provide basis for diagnosis and treatment for the rehabilitation of patients after ACL reconstruction.Methods64patients who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction from Orthopedics of No1.affiliate hospital of Guang Zhou Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from January2007to December2010were investigated retrospectively,52of whom were included in this study followed up by outpatient clinic or telephone. Relations between influential factors and sports psychological index were analysis. Influential factors included sex, age, position (left side or right side), causes of injury, frequency of injury, operation time, follow-up of TCM syndrome types, range of motion of wounded knee, ligamental laxity check, thigh muscle strength, one-leg hop test, wound infection, graft rejection and removal of metallic internal fixation of tibia. While sports psychological index consisted of Tegner scores (evaluated before injury and when follow up), Lysholm scores (evaluated after injury and when follow up) and mood scores, self-confidence scores and risk assessment scores of motion and total scores of psychological questionnaire of ACL reconstruction. Result52cases were followed up, with follow-up time:16-64months, average38.35±14.35months;41males and11females;23left sides and29right sides; age:17-42years, average26.71±5.89years; occupational distribution:16students,7workers, et al; frequency of injury:34cases once,9cased twice and9cases greater than or equal to thrice; period from injury to operation:2days to6years; operation time:11cases acute stage (less than2weeks),15cases subacute stage (2weeks to2months) and26cases chronic stage (more than2months); causes of injury:33cases exercise-induced injury (21of which were basketball,7football,3volleyball and2other sports),3cases traffic and other injury respectively;4cases removal of metallic internal fixation of tibia;1case both wound infection and graft rejection.Data was analyzed by SPSS statistics software using one-way ANOVA. Both stability and thigh muscle strength of wounded knee could affect motion and psychological condition of patients after ACL reconstruction respectively. Being fear of reinjury was the main psychological condition. There was a^clear correlation between frequency of injury and psychological condition of being fear of reinjury. While there were no correlation among influential factors including sex, age, position and causes of injury, motion condition and psychological condition. Due to insufficient cases, it was failed to get reliable statistical results on the items of range of motion of wounded knee, one-leg hop test, wound infection, graft rejection and removal of metallic internal fixation of tibia.ConclusionStability and thigh muscle strength of injured knee were the main factors affecting the motion condition and psychological condition of patients after ACL reconstruction. With decline in muscle strength or stability of the injured knee, the patients would suffer from worsen motion condition and psychological condition. Being fear of reinjury was the main psychological condition of patients underwent ACL reconstruction, which was more severe with a more frequency of injury.
