Object: To investigate the distribution of M2-Polarized Tumor-Assoc-iated Macrophages (TAMs) in human epithelial ovarian cancer as well as itscorrelation with clinical pathological features and lymphangiogenesis. Methods: A total of74samples were enrolled in this study, include41samples paitents diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer as the experimental group,18samples with borderline ovarian tumors and15samples with Benignovarian tumors as the control group, we use the CD68to mark the macrop-hages and marked the M2-polarized TAMs with CD163and lymphaticvessels (LV) with D2-40by immunohistochemistry techniques.to explored thecorrelation between macrophages distribution and clinical pathological featu-res in these samples.Result: CD68positive macrophages were detected in both tumor isletsand stroma, while TAMs and LV were mainly distributed in the stroma withrelatively lower number detected in the tumor islets (P <0.01). Number forCD68,CD163and D2-40in ovarian cancer were significantly higher than thebenign and boradline group,(P <0.01)..The number of CD68+macrophages,M2-polarized TAMs and LV in tumor islets and stroma were closely related tothe clinical stage, histological differentiation, pathological subtypes, thesurgical magrin involved and lymph node metastasis, both they havestatistically significant differences (P <0.01). The lymph-vessel number inthe tumor stroma is related with that of CD68+macrophages and CD163+macrophages (r=0.788,r=0.882, P <0.01, P <0.01).Conclusion: TAMs in overian cancer are predominantly M2type,mainly distributed in tumor islets, and are related with clinical stage, histolo-gical differentiation, pathological subtypes, the surgical magrin involved andlymph node metastasis of the tumor. It indicates that TAMs may advocate LV formation which may assist tumor metastasis.
