| Objective:To evalute the clinical outcomes of two different surgicaltreatments for symptomatic sacral canal cysts. Methods:From June2003to April2011,48cases of symptomaticsacral canal cysts were treated by trans-laminar fibrin gel injection under Carm X-ray machine guided (group A,30cases) and traditonal simple sacrallaminectomies with resection of the cysts (group B,18cases). Preoperativedata and postoperative lumbosacral pain and function improvement wereanalyzed and compared between two groups. Results:The operative time, bleeding, length of stay andcomplications rate in group A were significantly less than those in group B(P<0.01). For two groups, there were significant differences in visualanalogue scale score and Oswestry functional disability index betweenpreoperation and postoperation (P<0.01),and in the rate of functionimprovement between two groups (P<0.05) but in the rate of lumbosacralpain improvement(P>0.05). The improvement time of lumbosacral pain and function in group A is shorter than that in group B.According to therating scale, the excellent and good rates of pain improvement were88%ingroup A and71%in group B; the excellent and good rates of functionimprovement were88%in group A and71%in group B.Conclusion:C arm X-ray machine guided fibrin gel therapy forsymptomatic sacral canal cysts is a simple, safe, repeatable and effectivetherapy. |
