However, owing to the large population of our country, the percentage of the aged in the total population has been growing over time, which accelerates the pace of the aging society. Thus it is necessary and urgent to outshoot terminal care for the old.In the clinical aspect, the elderly are in terminal phase and usually exposed to modern medical technology and great amount of drug treatment. Having had the cases of accepting futile treatment before the termination of life, the aged and their relatives would feel helpless and sorrowful. The aim of terminal care is to support terminal elderly and their relatives psychologically. More important, terminal care is to help terminal elderly alleviate or even relieve psychological stress, so as to erase mental fear and maintain dignity. |
