Purpose:This meta-analysis was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cryoablation for treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).Methods:A systemic literature search in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (CCRT) was performed and controlled trials comparing the effect of cryoablation with radiofrequency(RF) ablation were collected. Results:A total of5trials including432patients with PAF were qualified for this meta-analysis. With a follow-up of6months, cryoablation has a similar efficacy on sinus rhythm maintenance compared with RF ablation (Cryo82.3%vs. RF81.9%;[OR]1.33;95%[CI]:0.77-2.32, P=0.59).The main complications included7phrenic nerve paralysis(PNP) in the cryoablation group, while4pericardial effusion were reported in RF group. Procedure time was175±32minutes in the cryoballoon group and197±52minutes in the RF group (P=0.52), with similar fluoroscopy times (cryoballoon:53.6minutes; RF:42.3minutes, P>0.05). Conclusion:The results suggested that cryoablation was safe and had a comparable efficacy compared with RF ablation with PAF during a follow-up of6months.
