ObjectsTo evaluate the effects of cleft palate on the craniofacial morphology in adult patients with unoperated cleft palate by cephalometric analysis, analysis the characteristics of the soft and hard tissues.MethodsSelection60cases the adult patients with unoperated cleft surgery from anhui medical university hospital affiliated oral and maxillofacial surgery in September2009to September2011, no harelip history, age18to23(20.2+/-1.8) years old, male34cases,26were women. The incomplete of cleft25cases, male13cases, female12cases; Unilateral complete cleft35cases, male22cases, female13cases. The control group: select60health students in anhui medical university, male30cases, female30cases, aged20to25(22.9+/-2.6) years old.By using cephalometric analysis measured the hard and soft tissues between experimental group with the control group, reference Downs and Wylie analysis measurement items, selected28measurement items, which a hard tissue22, the soft tissue6items.linespacing measuring12, Angle measurement14items, The data of the cephalometric measurements were compared with the control group by t test. Results Research found that the SNA, ANB and N-A-Po results such as the lower than those of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). MP-SN compared with controls group bigger, difference was statistically significant (P<0.05), the Y-axis Angle decreased (P<0.01). ANS-Ptm (maxillary long), Co-Po (mandible long), SL are below normal groups, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). G-Sn-Po’ and G-Prn-Po’ will increased; ULP reduced, compared with the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). The experimental group and control group between age, gender structure is balanced, no statistical difference; The different groups of data comparable. It is also found that the56cases has serious occlusal disturbance in adult patients, accounting for93.3%of the total.ConclusionsThe result show that, in hard tissue of the cleft palate patients, there were obvious deficiency of the maxillary development, the longth of the hard palate was too short, the mentum stretch before the mandibular phenomenon is obvious and the mandibular down rotation and back. In soft tissue of the cleft palate, the central in one third of the cleft palate patients’face develope insufficiently, upper lip protrusion insufficiently too.
