Objective To investigate the self-repair capacity of different bone defect sizes on themandible.Method On both side of dog’s mandible bones, bone defects which were5mm inlength,5mm in depth and lmm,2mm,3mm,4mm,5mm in width were respectivelymade. Then, direct suture was performed.Three months after the operation, segment ofbone defects were observed with scanning electron microscopegroup.Result The bone defects, which were lmm,2mm,3mm in width were basically full ofnew bone. However, the defects of4mm and5mm has almost no new bone formation, instead of fibrous soft tissue composition. Conclusion For defects less than3mm in width, the bone defect area have good newbone formation, under this circumstance, it is not necessary to use guided—issueregeneration or other interventions....
