Xiangya School of medicine is a modern famous higher medical institution of our country, which has a profound name of " south Xiangya, north Concord " in the field of medical school.it had trained a large number of outstanding talents since had established in1914and laid a solid foundation to promote the development of China’s modern medicine. As a successful example of Chinese and foreign joint school, it had effectively promoted the communication between Chinese and Western culture and made an indelible contribution to the inheritance transformation and development of our country’s higher education. It had characterized by church colleges and special historical background since the foundation of medical school, which made a great diversity in the development processes of Xiangya School of medicine. To some extend, these characteristics place restrictions in the process of development, meanwhile the Xiangya School of medicine had tortuously developed under the social environment of difficulties and hardships at that time and enjoyed renowned name from abroad higher medical institutions,which had practical significance to the construction of our higher education.this paper dressed the development of Xiangya School of medicine, analyzed the characteristics during the processes of development and concluded some successful experience,in order to provide some meaningful suggestions to the reform of our higher education.This paper adopted three methods during the process of the research: literature method, comparative method and statistical method. Literature method is mainly through the collection of literature, identification, screening, sorting, selection and the related literature and historical data the history of China Medical Academy. Comparative method lays a special emphasize on the comparison of the files. In order to highlight the characteristics of Xiangya School of medicine, this paper adopted comparative method. During the process of analyzing the characteristics and experience of Xiangya School of medicine,the author also adopted statistical method,which had made some objective evaluation of Xiangya School of medicine in quantity.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is the preface. It is over all grasp the development process of Xiangya School of medicine through acomprehensive dometic and foreign research. The second part describes the running history of Xiangya School of medicine during the Republic of China according to historical time period. The third part is a transverse in-depth study of the status of Xiangya School of medicine during this period. The forth part is a analysis, induction and summary of different characteristics of the development of Xiangya School of medicine base on the two parts above. Finally, the paper summarizes the characteristics of Xiangya School of medicine during the Republic of China and its practical significance to the reform and development of morden higher education.
