Objective: Age estimation is always one of the most important problems which need to solve. Recent advances in molecular biology for age estimation have been some development, but research directions on age estimation in molecular biology are not many and they mainly include aspartic acid racemization, fragments of mitochondrial DNA deletions (oxidative damage of mitochondrial DNA), the length of the telomere DNA, DNA methylation, advanced glycation end products. These methods have some shortcomings. The objective is to try to provide a new research ideas for forensic age estimation from study on the relationship between the cytochrome C oxidase activity and contents of cytochrome C in mitochondria in the brain tissues and the age of miceMethods:To test the cytochrome C oxidase activity in the brain tissues of one-month-old,three-month-old, six-month-old,nine-month-old and twelve-month-old Kunming mice using the UV spectrophotometry. To test contents of the cytochrome C in the mitochondria of the above Kunming mice in Zhang Juntian’s way. Results:The cytochrome C oxidase activity and contents of cytochrome C in mitochondria in the brain tissues decreased gradually with mice age increases. Conclusion: The cytochrome C oxidase activity and contents of cytochrome C in mitochondria in the brain tissues may be used for age estimation.
