Objective:To investigate the usefulness of using LigaSureTM vessel sealingsystem, LVSS during radical cystectomy for bladder carcinoma in comparison with the conventional suture technique in the processes of operation and post-operation recovery. Methods:From April,2008to December,2011,152patients in the Second Xiangya Hospital underwent radjcal cystectomy with ileum conduit(ileal neobladder reconstruction?).60patients using standard surgical technique were compared with the92patients that Ligasure device was used for haemostasis on the median duration of operation, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative pelvic drainage, drainage tube duration and postoperative complications. Results:The median duration of operation was shorter in the Ligasure group(240±35min, p<0.01vs350±75min). Blood loss was was less in the Ligasure group(80±15ml) versus(150±20ml) in the suture group. The pelvic drainage was less in the Ligasure group(40±10ml/d) versus (110±30ml/d) in the suture group. The drainage tube duration was shorter in the Ligasure group(3.5±1d) versus (7.5±1d) in the suture group. There was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative recovery time and complications. Conclusion:The Ligasure vessel sealing system is a safe and effective alternative in radical cystectomy, resulting in time saving, decreased blood loss and less tissue injuries.
