Objective:To assess the adherence ability of bacteria to different surface of twokinds of denture base. Methods:10patients were randomly chosen, whose oral cavitymucous membrane were healthy and dentition were all lost. Then dentures of every patientwere made respectively with cobalt chromium alloy and acrylic resin as base materials;Namely with acrylic resin for group A in maxillary, with cobalt chromium alloy for groupB in mandibular. When patients have worn dentures for6months, the samples of thetissue surface (group A1)and polished surface(group A2) of acrylic resin base, and thesamples of the tissue surface (group B1)and polished surface(group B2) of obaltchromium alloy base were picked and bacteria cultivation research was performed. Aftercalculating the number of colonies (cfu/ml), statistical analysis and differences betweenthem were made. Results:(1) bacteria colony on tissue surface and polished surface ofAcrylic resin base were greater than that of cobalt chromium alloy base, and there was astatistical difference between them (P<0.05).(2) with the same base material, the numberof bacterial adhesion on the tissue surface was less than that of the polished surface, andthe differences between them are significant.(3) Strains appraisal: bacteria on polishedsurface of cobalt chromium alloy and on the tissue surface of acrylic resin were mainly G+balled bacteria, while the G-balled bacteria and bacillus are less. However, bacteria on thetissue surface of these two kinds of material are almost G-ball and bacillus. Moreover, andida albicans was not detected in all surfaces. Conclusion:Cobalt chromium alloy asbase material can reduce bacteria adhesion and is good for oral health. Although thenumber of bacterial adhesion on the tissue surface is less than that of the polished surfaceof the same denture base materials, but they are almost G-ball and bacillus, which isharmful to periodontium. So the cleaning and disinfection of prosthesis should be paid more attention and is good for oral health.
