With the deepening of the research on gastric cancer, biologicaltreatment has gradually become the stomach comprehensive treatment of a kind ofnew method. So looking for new biological markers or therapeutic targets become oneof the hot spot of the current research. Gal-9is a member of the family of galectins,which is a kind of galactose glycosides binding protein. Known study haspreliminarily show that Gal-9and many diseases are connected, especially in cancerdevelopment, progression, and metastasis and prognosis. But the Gal-9in gastriccancer occur in the process of development effect has not been reported. This researchthrough the immunohistochemical detection of patients with gastric cancer tissues andtumor-adjacent tissues of the Gal-9protein expression, and this paper discusses thestomach cancer tissue of the Gal-9protein expression level and gastric cancer clinicalfeatures relationship, for stomach cancer individualization treatment and prognosisevaluation provide relevant theoretical basis.This study collected the tissue samples from who accepted stomach cancerresection of305cases through August2000to August2011in the first hospital ofJilin University. Record the patient’s clinical and pathological characteristics andsurial. The expression of Gal-9was examined in305gastric cancer tissues and78adjacent normal gastric epithelial tissues by SP immunohistochemical method. Anassociation study was used to analyze the correlation between expression levels ofGal-9protein and tumor parameters and clinical outcomes. A multivariate analysis was used to evaluate prognostic values by comparison of disease-specific survival inpatients with different expression levels of Gal-9.The results show that The positive expression of Gal-9was29.5%in normalepithelia and61.5%in gastric cancer. The expression levels of Gal-9in gastric cancerwere significantly associated with the stages of the tumors, lymph node metastases,and the distant metastasis. And were not associated with the age, sex, tumorinfiltration depth and tumor differentiation degree. The Gal-9expression was alsosignificantly correlated with the rate of survival (P=0.02). Lower-expression of Gal-9was strongly correlated with poor survival (P=0.006). Multivariate analysis furtherdemonstrated that Gal-9expression could be used as an independent prognostic valuefor gastric cancer patients.The Conclusion is Gal-9may play an important part in the gastric carcinogenesis.Expression of Gal-9can be used in the prognosis prediction of gastric cancer patientsindependently.
