Objective: To investigate the status of hemodialysis patients in ourhospital. Methods: We collected the data from423patients with end stagerenal diseases who got confirmed diagnosis and were registered in ourhemodialysis center from January2010to January2012in First Hospitalof Jilin University. This study involved the private medical records of allpatients were subjected to the consent of patients or family members, consulting face to face or by telephone. The investigation includedage, sex, marital status, registered residence, primary disease, dialysismethod, dialysis frenquency, complications, dialysis duration, dialysisprognosis and vascular access of hemodialysis patients. Results: We collected the data from423hemodialysis patients.1.Sexand age:There were241male cases (56.97%)and182female cases(43.03%).The ratio for male to female was1.32:1. The age extent of thepatients was from17to84years old, and the average age was51.20±14.71years old.The most case were with age of51-60years old,whichwere115cases (27.19%), secondly were61-70years old of105cases(24.82%) and41-50years old of68cases (16.08%),which were mainlydistributed in40-70years old.2. Marital status and registeredresidence:The most case were married, which were355cases (83.92%).There were10cases(2.36%) divorced, widowed of26patients(6.15%) and32patients (7.57%)unmarried. There were245cases (57.92%)ofpatients with urban population,70cases (16.55%)of patients were in ruralareas.3.Primary disease and distribution: The major primary diseaseswere chronic glomerulonephritis190cases (44.92%), diabetesnephropathy72cases (17.02%), hypertensive nephropathy61cases(14.42%),chronic pyelonephritis28cases (6.62%), obstructivenephropathy25cases (5.91%). There were different distributioncharacteristics of patients.Chronic glomerulonephritis was in the firstplace in the pathogeny of non older group, and it was almostthe same distribution in the urban population and the rural population.Diabetic nephropathy and hypertension nephropathy were accounted forthe large proportion in older group and urban population. But diabeticnephropathy was accounted for the first in older group causes.4. Dialysismethod and dialysis frequency: Merely hemodialysis was used in248cases (58.63%), hemodialysis combined with intermittenthemodiafiltration in127cases (30.02%)and hemodialysis combinedwith intermittent hemoperfusion in48cases (11.35%). There were only7cases (1.65%) under hemodialysis once weekly,174cases (41.13%) and242cases (57.21%) under hemodialysis twice weekly and three timesweekly.5.Dialysis duration and prognosis:The shortest duration was only4months, the longest duration was13years. There were115cases(27.19%) with duration of below one year, secondly were90cases(21.28%) with duration of2-3years and83cases (19.62%) with durationof1-2years. Dialysis age more than5years was found in17.49% patients and more than10years was found in only6cases (1.42%). Therewere252cases (59.57%) in maintenance hemodialysis,48cases(11.35%) had to been other hospitals,40cases (9.46%) transformed toperitoneal dialysis,5cases (1.18%) had been kidney transplantation,12cases (2.84%)refused further treatment and66cases (15.60%) had beendead.6.Complications:There were363cases (85.82%) with hypertension,380cases (89.83%) with anemia and360cases (85.11%) with these twokinds of diseases.52.25%patients had had acute heart failure. There were265cases (62.65%) with calcium and phosphorus metabolism disorder,42cases (9.93%) with gastrointestinal bleeding,105cases (24.82%) withuremia,211cases(49.88%) with ostealgia.7.Vascular access: In the423prevalent patients,350cases (82.74%) of them used arteriovenous fistulaas a vascular access,67cases (15.84%) long-term cuffed catheter,6cases(1.42%) provisional catheter.Conclusion:1. The majority of hemodialysis patients are middleand elderly people in our hospital. It is more males than females and mostof the patients are urban population.2.The primary disease ofhemodialysis patients is chronic glomerulonephritis, secondly are diabeticnephropathy and hypertension nephropathy. Chronic glomerulonephritisis the first cause of non-elderly group, diabetic nephropathy andhypertension nephropathy are accounted for the large proportion in oldergroup and urban population.3. The main dialysis method is merelyhemodialysis, and dialysis frequency is2to3times per week.4.The maincomplications are anemia, hypertension, calcium and phosphorus metabolism disorder and cardiac dysfunction. The proportion of patientswith hypertension and anemia is high.5. The main vascular access isarteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis patients.
