ObjectivePrevious studies have suggested that implementation of PSA screening in China is crucial important. This study compared pathological and clinical characteristics of screen-detected and clinically diagnosed prostate cancers and evaluated the effectiveness of PSA screening for early detection of prostate cancer in Zhengzhou.MethodsRetrospective analysis143patients with prostate cancers,which were diagnosed between June2011and March2012,in urology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Collect the date of who was diagnosed prostate cancer though PSA screening. Dring the same period,82consecutive clinically diagnosed cancers were evaluated.ResultsThe median and mean age of screened patients is smaller the clinically diagnosed patients,the screened patients’prostate volume is smaller than diagnosed patients,too.The Gleason score of61.4%screened patients were under seven,and the clinically diagnosed patients is39.5%.It is More screened that patients were found with PSA levels<20ng/ml (56.1vs32.6%,P<0.001),Gleason scores<7(61.4vs39.5%,p=0.002),organ-confined tumors(76.7vs37.2%,p<0.001), and opportunities for radical prostatectomy (57.4vs21.1%,P<0.001) than that in clinically diagnosed patients.Conclusion We have found that the Clinical group come to hospital only when appear the clinical symptoms,PSA screening is very effective for early diagnosed of prostate cancer in elderly men in china.Favorable PSA levels,clinical stages, Gleason scores and the chances for radical prostatectomy are associated with the PSA screening.Further studies are needed to evaluate the effect of screening on treatment,outcomes and mortality of prostate cancer in Zhengzhou.
