Objective: We compared outcomes and postoperative living quality of robotic atrialmyxoma excision with sternotomy approach to discuss the safety, effectiveness andrecovery condition. Methods: Between January2007and January2013,49patients of robotic(ROBO)group were performed myxoma excision by using da Vinci Surgery System.44patients of sternotomy(STER) group were underwent sternotomy atrial myxomaexcision from January2007to January2013. We comparatively analyzed the safetyand effectiveness between the two operative approaches through operative time, bloodproduct transfusion, postoperative bleeding and incidence of complications. What’smore, the SF-36survey questionnaire and patients who returned to work or exercisewere used to evaluate postoperative quality of life.Results:1. Average amounts of peri-operative bleeding and postoperative drainage of ROBOwere less than the STER, so were the average amounts of packed red blood cell, plasma and blood platelet(p<0.05). Average length of intubation time, ICU stay andpostoperative stay were less in ROBO group(p<0.05). There was no in-hospital deaths, neurologic, pulmonary and renal complication. The occurrence of AF between twogroups had statistically significant and the ROBO group was low(4.1%vs18.2%,p=0.04).2. Quality of life on postoperative day30of the ROBO was better than the STER.The proportion of patients who return to work or exercise in ROBO group wassignificantly higher than STER group. The majority of patients in ROBO group weremuch more satisfaction with their operation incision. Conclusions: Excision of atrial myxomas with the da Vinci Surgical System is feasible, efficacious, and safe. They lived a high quality of life after surgery andsurgical results are excellent.
