Just as language test is an effective way to assess language teaching, culture test has becomean important means of evaluating cultural teaching. Without a scientific and reasonable culturetest system, culture teaching would deviate from the right direction and consequently becomes afragmented and unsystematic teaching. Many foreign scholars have pointed out the importanceof culture test and have conducted some researches on the content, the objectives and the formatof culture test. However, compared with the foreign researches, domestic evaluation and relatedresearches on the culture test are relatively in a small proportion. It is generally accepted that thecontent of cultural teaching of college English is in great diversity, but there is few, if any, testsin connection with the content of culture teaching. Therefore, the integrating of culture test intoCollege English language test and establishing an effective culture test system are particularlyurgent and prominent in current College English test system.The study is conducted with the guidance of the theory of Intercultural CommunicativeCompetence proposed by Wiseman, using a comparative analysis approach as the researchmethods. The subjects are randomly selected 107 sophomores from Liren College YanshanUniversity and they are divided into the control group and the experimental group. Their originallanguage competence, cultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence areobtained through the language and culture pretest, after which the two groups are beginning toaccept the systematic culture teaching and learning in accordance with the cultural content ofCollege English textbook for non-English majors Experiencing English. In addition, both thecontrol and experimental group will participate in the language mid-term test, with theexperimental group participating in a mid-term culture test. Finally, the language posttest andculture posttest will be carried out, during which the students’language competence, culturalawareness and intercultural communicative competence will be obtained. A comparative analysisof the results between the pretest and posttest will be conducted both from the horizontal andvertical perspectives.According to the outcomes of the surveys and tests, the following conclusions have beenmade: integrating culture test into college English language test can assess the students’intercultural communicative competence effectively and scientifically; culture test generates a positive effect on students’ language competence and cultural awareness and plays a significantand prominent role in promoting backwash effect on English language teaching. Therefore, it isfeasible to integrating culture test into current college English language test.
