Although many scholars of Phonetics have conducted academic research on the perception and production of English liquid/r/and/l/by native Korean speakers, there is still a lack of research on the perception and production of Mandarin/r/and/l/by native Korean speakers. This paper aims to take into account the results of previous studies and also to process acoustic measurement and statistical test base on the phonetic samples pronounced by native Chinese and Korean speakers.Based on experiments on similarities between Mandarin/r/、/l/and Korean liquid2/r/, the Korean2/r/is more similar to the Mandarin/l/than the Mandarin/r/. This paper defined the Mandarin/r/、/l/as new phone and similar phone respectively according to the acoustical and phonological comparison. With regards to perception, We analyzed the perceiving pattern of the Mandarin/r/and/l/of native Korean speakers by using the identification and discrimination tests. We reached these conclusions:1. Korean speakers have difficulty identifying the Mandarin/r/and/l/, but they can still identify the Mandarin/r/and/l/partly;2. The perceiving rates of the Mandarin/r/were higher than the Mandarin/l/by native Korean speakers;3. There are different perceptual errors for Korean speakers in perceiving the Mandarin/r/and/l/across the phonological environments, for example:phonological position, vowel, and Chinese tone.Regarding production, we reached these conclusions:1. the pronunciation accuracy of Mandarin/r/is little higher than the Mandarin/l/prono-unced by native Korean speakers;2. In the acoustic analyses of speech production, the acoustic values’differences of the Mandarin/l/is less than the Mandarin/r/pronounced by native Chinese and Korean speakers. As it pertains to the Mandarin level, we found:as the Mandarin level is improved, the ability to perceive the Mandarin/r/、/l/was improved and also the ability to pronounce the Mandarin/r/was improved partly by native Korean speakers. But there was no significant improvement of the Mandarin/l/by native Korean speakers.According to the result above with SLM and PAM, we also reached these conclusions:1. As Mandarin level was improved, new phone is easier to learn, similar phone is more difficult to learn, these results support SLM;2. The perceiving model of Korean speakers is CG(Category Goodness) of PAM, Korean speakers are perceiving the Mandarin/r/and/l/as the Korean2/r/, but they can perceive the level of similarity between the Mandarin/r/、/l/and Korean2/r/, so they can identify the Mandarin/r/and/l/partly, but the identifying rate is not very high.
