This translation task is part of cooperation of Foreign Language Teaching And ResearchPress (FLTRP) and Henan University. With the team work with classmates, the author hadfinished the translation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel Catherine, A Story. Each ofus had translated about ten thousand words. The author’s task is the Chapter7--WHICHEMBRACES A PERIOD OF SEVEN YEARS.This part of the novel tells a story of that the illegitimate child, Master ThomasBillings,which Catherine and Count Gustavus Adolphus de Galgenstein borns seven yearsago, is abandoned to who is his nurse. Brock and Macshane return to the town and bring himto his mother Catherine, which is Mrs. Hayes now to gain some money.This novel is the first one that William Makepeace Thackeray is written in the year of1839-1840. So far, this novel has no Chinese version. However, the author is not familiar withthe translation of19century’s books. During the translating process, the author has facedmany difficulties in many aspects. The author has a deeper understanding of this novel afterhandling with these problems.After this task, the author made a lot of new understandings of translation. It is that thegood literature translator needs solid bilingual quality. What’s more, as a translator, one musthave the sense of responsibility. And then, one can make good translation.
