Through the A Mercy, Toni Morrison pays attention to the living condition of theblack women as usual and shows her care for them. A Mercy happens in the earlycolonial period of the New Continent when the author investigates the origin of theirmisery that is slavery. However, the women’s self-lost and spiritual slavery is also thereason that brings the sad fate to the particular group. The author tries to tell the readersthat only one bursts the bonds of spirit, can he possesses himself and win the love fromothers and also get a better life.This paper sees the "daughter--selling scene "as the kernel event of the novel andmakes exploration into the "double--colony “of the black women and also their femaleidentities and resistance. Furthermore, by analyzing the novel, the writer of this paperfinds out the ideal world Morrison creates for the whole Black Americans,that is theBlack Americans should fling off the chains of slave and get the freedom of their spiritand body.In the first place,the author of this paper makes an analysis of the"double--colony" of the different women in the novel and finds out the reason of it.Whenthe Blacks has been brought to the New Continent in1619,the access andcommunication between them and the Africa was cut off.On the one hand,being athralldom,there’s a litter chance to get into touch with the mainstream.So,they have toseek for ways of emotional outpour and channels for value identity outside themainstream culture.Because of this cultural edge person,the Black Americans become"double--colony".Secondly, Florence,the heroine of the novel,shows the "Awareness of Duality "which on the one hand,she desires well affirmative from her master while,when shemeets black smith,she becomes mad about his wisdom and freedom that is the symbol ofAfrica tradition.Finally,after she came through many obstacles and difficults,she got thesublimation of the spirit and possessed herself by writing.In the end,Morrison put her words in minha mae ’s mouth,to draw a perfect outline of the ideal world for all Black Americans.Maternal love is a a necessary elementof the traditional African virtue.Minha mae tried her best to shake off the physicalslavery for her daughter,Florence.Though,because of the lack of maternalaffection,Florence felt empty in my heart and uncredited inside.When Florence left hermother,she was too young to understand the important words. Although Florence and hermother apart,her mother says the important words again and again.Because of blacksmith,Florence becomes self--awareness and grow up.She is no longer resign herself toadversity.contrarily,she makes a fresh start in her life bravely and sturdily.A Mercy tells that the spiritual freedom is very important, whatever one’sbody.This novel describes the history of blood and tears when the Blacks Americans leftthe Africa.The author of this paper make an analysis of feminine self--identity at thepoint of post--colonial.
