Salami Technique And Cohesive Devices In E-C Simultaneous Interpreting

Simultaneous interpretation, short as SI, is one of the most frequently used multi-taskinterpreting activities in international conferences and business meetings. To complete suchan activity, one has to strike a balance between listening, comprehension, memory andinterpreting. The most widely used techniques in SI are the salami technique and cohesivedevices, and the salami technique is a key factor in successful SI. So the emphasis of thisthesis is on the analysis of the application of the salami technique and cohesive devices inthe E-C simultaneous interpretation in the case of Biden’s speech in Sichuan University.Four types of sentence which frequently appear in the speech are discussed. As a result, theauthor is able to get a deeper understanding of such technique and devices and develop theability to conduct self-evaluation. In addition, it will facilitate the author to achieve betterperformance in future practices as well as real-case tasks.
