From a translator to a foreign publicity expert, Shen Suru conducts his study upontranslation from a broader view, applies his translation thought to foreign publicity cause, thusbringing us his foreign publicity translation thought. It is, no doubt, a great progress in thecircle of translation as well as foreign publicity. Shen carries out his study based on thecombination of translation and foreign publicity, formulates his foreign publicity translationthought with Chinese characteristics, which not only promotes the study of translation andforeign publicity, but also provides a good channel for those engaged in translation and foreignpublicity to improve themselves. With the help of his translation thought, particularly histhought on foreign publicity, great progress can be seen in our country’s foreign publicity andsound international image of our country is continuously enhancedThe author has collected a wide range of materials on translation by Shen and studied hisexposition on foreign publicity thoroughly. On this basis and with the help of examples incitedfrom the books by Shen, the author has sorted out and summarized his translation thought aswell as his viewpoint on its application to foreign publicity. The value included has gotexplored and systematical support has provided for foreign publicity.The whole thesis consists of five main chapters in addition to an introduction and aconclusion. In the introduction part, the author mainly presents the current research status onShen Suru and his theory, points out that no systematic or thorough studies have beenconducted. In chapter one, the author gives a brief introduction to Shen Suru’s life, hiseducation, representative works, achievement and his influence on translation and foreignpublicity fields. Shen was greatly influenced by Yan Fu’s translation theory, thus the authorgives a brief account of Yan Fu, his three character principle and summarize Shen’s owntranslation thought in chapter two. Chapter three serves as a systematic study of Shentranslation views from the perspective of the essence of translation. The author in this chaptercarries out a thorough research from the aspects of translation nature, translation andcommunication, translation and culture, Equivalent value and value as ideal concepts. Chapterfour touches upon the study of Shen translation thought from the process of translating, wherethe relationship between three stages and Yan Fu’s XDY are also detected and displayed. Chapter five gives an account of Shen’s achievement in C-E translation in the respect offoreign publicity. Shen argued that Yan Fu’s three character principle is also applicable toforeign publicity material translation, and up to now is the best translation principle and criteriathat cannot be replaced within the near future. In the conclusion part, the author in brief sumsup Shen’s translation viewpoints discussed above and XDY value theoretically and practically,and calls for the inherit and development of XDY.
